Course Title
Cross-cultural & Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives on Work & Family Issues
Department(s)
Description
Whereas the 'Psychology of Work and Family: An Introduction' is designed to teach students about work and family issues from an individual and primarily U.S. perspective, this course takes an international perspective, and introduces the student to various aspects of context (including cultural, political, and socioeconomic aspects of context) that are critical for understanding individual work and family experiences, as well as broader policies and practices. Moreover, this course introduces and compares multiple disciplinary lenses, e.g., psychology, family studies, sociology, political science, anthropology, and labor economics, each of which offers a unique perspective on work and family issues. In addition, the course will cover key theories and examples of work-family scholarship illustrating these disciplinary perspectives and their associated methodologies.
