Description

Have you ever seen a 2-year old in a stroller playing on an iPad and thought to youself, "Do electronic academic games actually promote children's learning?" Have you ever seen a group of teenagers on the subway talking really loudly about explicit material and thought to yourself, "Why are they doing this?" Have you seen an older person walking gingerly, aided by a cane, to your apartment building and wondered, "What effect does declining mobility and health have on a person's emotional well-being?" All of these questions can be addressed in the field of developmental psychology. In this course we will cover the major concepts, principles, theories, and methods of developmental psychology. Focusing on a different topic each week we will explore the stages of lifespan development: pre-natal period; infancy; early and middle childhood; adolescence; early; middle and late adulthood.
