Quantum Optics

Department(s)

Description

The course is concerned with the quantum theory of light including the classical-like coherent states of light and various forms of non-classical states such as quadrature squeezed states and sub-Poissonian states of light, entangled states of light, and the interaction of light in such states with matter. Also discussed are the quantum mechanical descriptions of beam splitters and interferometers, nonlinear optical processes, fundamental tests of quantum mechanics (Bell’s inequalities) and applications to quantum information processing.
