Course Title

Critical Methods and Ethics in Contentious Times

Department(s)

Description

This course integrates critical philosophy of science with social theory, history of psychology, community-based ethics and psychological methods, exposing students to a range of critical classic methods, transnational modes of inquiry and reflections on ethics. Students will read on, and produce, scholarship forged at the intersection of critical race theory and psychology; feminist, queer and decolonizing methods and psychology. We will take the notion of “critical” seriously in terms of immersion in critical theory (Frankfurt school, critical science studies, criticalrace/feminist/decolonial projects), engagement with critical issues of political importance (policing, education, voting rights, land rights, languagerights, reproductive justice), and a critique of the colonial history of psychology.
